Recognition: LGBT Athlete of the Year

Compete Magazine has nominated the Athlete of the Year 2010. This year, the title went to Michael Holtz from Los Angeles, USA. The 26-year-old swimmer and activist combines two passions for unique fundraising. Michael Holtz is the third Athlete of the Year nominated by Compete Magazine; the title in the previous year went to Jeff Kagan from New York and John Deffee prom Phoenix. www.competenetwork.com/magazine/december-issue/

One Games initiative: 1 Quadrennial Event Working Group established

GLISA and FGG nominated 14 members of the Working Group for the one quadrennial global lgbt sport event (2018 onward). EGLSF strongly salutes this step, which was one of the first concrete steps after the announcement of willingness for cooperation between both organisations, taken at the EGLSF Annual General Assembly in March 2010 in Manchester, UK. LGBT sport federation created in Russia

Russia created a federation of LGBT sports and the organization calls for LGBT-activists in the region to participate. Russian LGBT-Sport Federation was founded by group of Russian sportsmen right after Gay games in Cologne. The goals of the Federation are: 1. To organize and support national team, able to participate in international LGBT sports events (Gay games, Eurogames, regional tournaments) 2. To organize LGBT-tournaments in Russia 3. Anniversary: Outsports turns 10

Outsports, based in Los Angleles, USA, was founded in November 2000 by Jim Buzinski and Cyd Zeigler, Jr with the mission to build a broad, deep, informative and entertaining gay sports community. Although Outsports covers mostly the news and events in the USA or North America in general, the European Gay & Lesbian Sport Federation (EGLSF) recognises the importance of such a community, and congratulates Outsports for their anniversary. EuroGames: Register for EuroGames 2011

Registration for the 13th edition of the EuroGames is open! Rotterdam (ranked world’s best festival city of 2010 in the category mid-sized cities) will be hosting this event from July 20 to July 24 2011 and offers you a wide variety of exciting sports and cultural events. Participants can subscribe for at least 30 different sports, and for every sport there will be a minimum number of participants in order to organize a relevant competition.
