LGBT sports magazine Sports Out Loud is accepting nominations for the 2008 Athlete of the Year Award. John Amaechi, Mark Tewksbury, and Doria Biddle were chosen as judges in the final selection. Athletes can nominate themselves, or nominate other LGBT candidates; the criteria being commitment to personal achievement, active participation in individual or team sports, commitment to supporting/encouraging others in sports and commitment to the LGBT (sports) community in general. www.sportsoutloud.com/aoty

Madpoint, a gay tennis club set in Madrid, Spain, with more than 70 members, has been the first one in Spain to comply with parity between men and women in directive posts after the appointment of Mariate Escalada as co-president. Madpoint and Escalada became one of the pioneers in complying with the recommendation presented in the last European Gay & Lesbian Sport Federation General Assembly held in Madrid, where the hundred clubs where asked to promote the appointment of women in head positions. In June the UEFA EURO 2008 will take place in Austria and Switzerland. QWIEN (spell Queen) will organize a poster competition about homosexuality and football to discuss homophobia in soccer. An exhibition of the posters during the competition in the centre of the city will help to make queers visible in this mainstream event. A prominent jury (including stars like Jimmy Somerville, artists and filmmakers) will nominate a winner for the 1st prize of the competition.
