EGLSF and ENGSO promoting European Sport values

EGLSF took part in the EU Sport Forum 2018 in Sofia on 22-23 March. The Forum was themed "Sport in Europe, investing for future generations" and gathered 380 participants representing sport organisations, policy making bodies, EU institutions and Member States.
The Forum's main objective was to take stock of progress achieved in implementing the EU agenda for sport and to seek stakeholders’ views on current and planned/possible future activities. Over the two days topics such as the role of sport in promoting international cooperation, sustainable sport, the promotion of healthy lifestyles, sport and innovation, sport and regional development, and women in sport were discussed.
The “Women in Sport: Breaking the Glass Ceiling” session, moderated by Piara Powar from FARE, posed the question, “Why are there still structures, culture and norms in sport which attract more boys and men?”. The four-speaker panel shared their views on the current challenges for women in sport, what has been achieved so far and what still needs to be done, both at European and national or local level.
The second day’s break-out session on “Promotion of Common Values through Sport” discussed the context of inequalities, rise of extremism and increasing migration, and how sport can be a powerful tool for promoting common values and sense of belonging to the traditions.

EGLSF was represented by its member Bilitis Resource Center Foundation, Bulgaria.
