As every year, the EGLSF took part in the annual conference of the International Lesbian and Gay Association in Europe, ILGA, that took place in Athens (for the first time in Greece) last week. Many Voices, One Movement: Together, mobilised for a just society was the title and there, EGLSF had the opportunity to meet again other ILGA members but also to speak about our tasks and work within the sports world to other activists not from our continent but also from the rest of the world.

The conference was divided into three very intense days in which delegates had the chance to participate in a total of 46 workshops but also to listen to politicians and activists from everywhere. The first ones explained how their capacities are working to build a better world for more equal societies and activists presented the ways they improve the situation of lgbti people in their countries.

It was a great opportunity for Greece to show to Europe the path the country is following towards equality and we could see live how the Greek government committed to promote lgbti equality through the laws of the country. Other personalities participated and spoke to the audience, such as the mayor of Athens, Yiorgos Kaminis; Ulrike Lunacek, vice-president of the European Parliament and co-president of the Intergroup on lgbti rights; or Gráinne Healy, Co-Director of Yes Equality and Chairwoman of Marriage Equality Ireland (see info about them here).

EGLSF is member of ILGA Europe since 2013 but in previous years both organisations have not only worked very closely but also prticipated together in many initiatives about lgbti rights in the European context.
