Sport attracts European citizens with a majority of people – around 60 percent – taking part in sporting activities on a regular basis. Around one third of the EU population is organised in a sport club making sport the largest social movement in Europe. Due to its important social function, sport is referred to in the Lisbon Treaty granting the EU a legal basis to promote sport at European level. But how shall the EU promote sport? Anniversary event: EGLSF AGA 2009 and BB3 Conference

42 ordinary members, an associated member and 7 extraordinary members participated in the 20th anniversary EGLSF Annual General Assembly on March 7-8 in the Hague. Our guests included representatives from FGG and GLISA, Football against Racism in Europe, Norwegian Olympic and Paraolympic Committee, and following international LGBT sport associations: Gay and Lesbian Rowing Federation, International Gay and Lesbian Aquatics, International Gay and Lesbian Football Association and International Gay and Lesbian Field Hockey Federation. Football & FARE: Unite Against Racism conference

‘Football is a wonderful thing!’ are the words of legendary footballer and fervent anti racist campaigner, Lilian Thuram, as he addressed the ‘Unite Against Racism’ conference in Warsaw today. EGLS Conference: Football against homophobia

The European Gay & Lesbian Sport Federation (EGLSF) and the Football Against Racism in Europe (FARE) network in co-operation with the Gay and lesbian Football Fan Club of FC Barcelona Penya Blaugrana de Gais i Lesbianes did hold the first EGLSF Conference Football Against Homophobia in Barcelona. From February 6 to 8, 2009 the meeting did gather gay and lesbian football fan groups from across the continent to discuss the issues facing gay and lesbian football supporters and how they could be tackled.
