As the #ErasmusDays unfold from October 14th to 19th, EGLSF takes this opportunity to shine a spotlight on three of its impactful EU projects: PLUSS, MESIS, and WSRO. These initiatives reflect EGLSF's commitment to promoting inclusion and combating discrimination in sports while enhancing educational opportunities across Europe.

6 Days to Make Europe Shine!

The #ErasmusDays is an international six-day celebration of the Erasmus+ programme, bringing together participants from various backgrounds—students, teachers, professionals, and citizens—to celebrate the benefits and opportunities created by the programme. This year marks the 8th edition of #ErasmusDays, inviting all to engage in events that showcase the transformative power of European cooperation.

Highlighting Our Projects

PLUSS Project: Empowering LGBTIQ+ Communities in Sports

The PLUSS project, titled “+PLUSS: LGBTIQ+ Policy and Leadership in Sport and Society,” is dedicated to promoting inclusion and combating discrimination within grassroots sports. Led by EGLSF, PLUSS recently submitted its Strategy Documents for Clubs’ Development to the European Education and Culture Executive Agency. This deliverable emphasizes capacity building and strategic development for LGBTQI+ sports clubs, fostering growth, sustainability, and inclusivity.

MESIS Project: Addressing Inclusive Sport Education

The MESIS project, which stands for "Missing Pieces for Educators and Local Stakeholders Addressing Inclusive Sport," aims to develop educational resources for sports professionals. Recently, EGLSF participated in a meeting in Misano Adriatico, Italy, to collaborate on the creation of the Outsport e-learning course. This innovative course, set to be available in eight languages, targets coaches, educators, and mental trainers in the field of sports. The team is currently fine-tuning the content for the MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) and planning pilot events for 2025.

WSRO Project: Researching LBTI+ Women in Sport

The WSRO project, focusing on LBTI+ Women in Sport: Research & Outcomes, aims to gather data on the participation and visibility of LBTI+ women in sports. This initiative seeks to highlight the needs, barriers, and challenges faced by these women, promoting equality and European values through sport. Recently, project partners attended the 2024 Olympics in Paris, conducting surveys to understand the experiences of LBTI women across Europe. Their efforts included engaging with communities at key locations like the Pride House and various bars, collecting invaluable responses to inform their research.

The Just-Gender Community-Wellbeing project focuses on increasing the inclusion and participation of athletes identifying as women, as well as those with diverse sexual orientations, gender identities, and expressions in European grassroots sport. By combating discrimination and addressing intolerance, this initiative aims to foster an inclusive sport culture where everyone can participate. The project emphasizes social inclusion and aims to improve outreach to people with fewer opportunities.

SGS Project: Tackling Sexism, Trans- and Homophobia in European Grassroots Sport

The SGS project establishes an inclusive sports culture that embraces all genders and sexualities. Addressing the outdated notions of masculinity and the strict binary division in sports, SGS works to promote inclusion and participation of all genders and sexualities in European grassroots sports. By developing measures and methods such as institutional dialogue, guidelines, and awareness campaigns, this project seeks to break down barriers faced by transgender athletes and LGB individuals.

EQUIP Project: For Equality in Practice

The EQUIP project responds to unacceptable levels of inequality and sluggish implementation of equality policies in sport. It adopts a pragmatic approach to ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity in the life and practice of sport in Europe. By addressing systemic issues, EQUIP aims to foster a more equitable sports environment for all.

iSPORT Project: Inclusion In Sport

The iSport Project promotes diversity and social inclusion in sport by bringing together partners from various sectors facing barriers to sport participation—women, the LGBTQI+ community, and people with disabilities. By enhancing awareness of health-promoting physical activity, the project aims to ensure equal opportunities and access to sport for all. Key outputs include an online MOOC and an interactive learning tool to guide future sports event organizers in offering inclusive events.
