AGA Rome 2008 – EGLSF Annual General Assembly 2008

This year's Annual General Assembly of the European Gay & Lesbian Sport Federation (EGLSF AGA 2008) took place in Rome, Italy on March 1 & 2, with preceding Gender Training on February 29. About 150 delegates attended the 2008 AGA in Rome. Our hosts (ArciGay for Sport, Rome; Gruppo Pesce, Rome and Regione Lazio Agensport) did a wonderful job in organising the event, so a big THANK YOU to all of them! Recognising LGBT athletes: 2008 Athlete of the Year Award

LGBT sports magazine Sports Out Loud is accepting nominations for the 2008 Athlete of the Year Award. John Amaechi, Mark Tewksbury, and Doria Biddle were chosen as judges in the final selection. Athletes can nominate themselves, or nominate other LGBT candidates; the criteria being commitment to personal achievement, active participation in individual or team sports, commitment to supporting/encouraging others in sports and commitment to the LGBT (sports) community in general. www.sportsoutloud.com/aoty

Gender Parity: Madpoint adopts gender equality policy

Madpoint, a gay tennis club set in Madrid, Spain, with more than 70 members, has been the first one in Spain to comply with parity between men and women in directive posts after the appointment of Mariate Escalada as co-president. Madpoint and Escalada became one of the pioneers in complying with the recommendation presented in the last European Gay & Lesbian Sport Federation General Assembly held in Madrid, where the hundred clubs where asked to promote the appointment of women in head positions.
