IDAHO 2008 – International Day Against Homophobia

Although the term 'homophobia' was coined in 1972 by George Weinberg, meaning the irrational fear of, aversion to, or discrimination against homosexuality, the fear and ignorance are unfortunately much older, and are still present nowadays. The International Day Against Homophobia (IDAHO), held on May 17 every year, is a rallying event offering an opportunity for people to get together and reach out to one another. Evening against discrimination: Football is everything… – Initiative against discrimination

With the EGLSF campaign "Football is everything…" evenings against discrimination in football were created. The campaign is supported by FARE and UEFA and will be travelling through Europe (the Kick off was in October 2007 in Berlin supported by the German Football Federation and German Football League) and will have the same format in every city: keynote speeches; panel discussion; signing of the declaration against discrimination. The anti-discrimination campaign will use football as a medium for sending out a unified message against all forms of discrimination. Conference in the UK: LGBT Sports Summit

On June 14, organisers of Pride Games will be hosting Sports Summit in the United Kingdom. The Summit aims to bring together sports organisers from around the UK to look at the future of LGBT involvement in sport. The summit is being supported by Manchester City Council.
