London Royals Hockey Club are looking for new players

Our season starts on 25th September with training at the John Orwell Sports Centre in Wapping followed by welcome drinks in a local pub. If you would like to learn how to play hockey, or want to brush up on your skills, you're more than welcome to join the club. www.londonroyals.co.uk

Out Athletes: Anton Hysén encourages coming out

After Anton Hysén, 20-year old football player from Sweden came out earlier last month, a lot of media attention has been given to him and raised the topic of (lack of) out athletes in sport, especially football. “I am a footballer. And I am gay. If I perform as a footballer, then I do not think it matters if I like girls or boys,” he said. He also acknowledges the possibility that this could affect his career, but pointed out that also other players have to deal with other discriminations, like racism. UK initiative: Pride Sports Launches Award to back Government Charter

Following the launch of the Government’s Charter for Action on Tackling Homophobia and Transphobia in Sport http://www.facebook.com/lgbtsportcharter yesterday, LGBT Sports Equity Organisation, Pride Sports, launched a new award to acknowledge the work of sports organisations making progress in this area. The new award is launched as part of the Pride Games Community Sports Awards, which each year celebrate the achievements of LGBT sports groups in the UK.
