EU Sports Forum 2017

The EGLSF was represented at the 2017 EU Sports Forum, which was held in St Julian’s, Malta on the 8th 9th March. The EU Sports Forum is a gathering of EU sport stakeholders that is organized by the European Commission every year. Over the two very windy days in Malta, there were interesting exchanges and debates on a number of pertinent topics for sport. These discussions were more relevant as the second EU Work Plan for Sport will be closing shortly. The time was used to take stock and evaluate, adjust and progress in defending the integrity if sport, promoting [...]

EGLSF attend Football Pride Week

From the 05 – 09 October 2016, football fans  hosted an international conference on homophobia in football. The EGLSF was represented by John Ryan and Sarah Townsend. The much-discussed coming out of an active professional footballer is still pending. Fans are often seen as the main problem in this process. But other football fans, ones that stand up against homophobia and engage for an open football culture, they exist too. Against this background, Football Fans Against Homophobia (FFAH), Queer Football Fanclubs (QFF) and Football Supporters Europe (FSE), together with the Federation of Gays and Lesbians in Berlin-Brandenburg (LSVD) are for [...]

Did you attend a Euro Pride House?

Have you ever attend a Pride House? Have you ever asked yourself what it is for? Before I went to France this summer, I could say ‘no’ on the first question and give, therefore, only a theoretical explanation on the second one. I’ve been very curious about the Euro Pride House at the European Football Cup 2016. I had so many questions about its organisation, its participants, its program and its support from the authorities… With the help of the EGLSF, Queering Football, FSGL and the French Embassy in Moscow, I got a chance to get a great experience and [...]

Freedom Bike Ride 2016

A friend of mine and me, we got off on the Vyborg Station. About 240 km lied ahead of us. Four days of hard cycling and unpredictable weather. At that moment I realized that I challenged myself again. ‘I’m just an amateur. Why do I do it again?’ I thought. However, I knew that I could do it. A year ago I did it and reached Stockholm. So why should it be impossible this time? These fears and questions were on my mind on the first day of the Freedom Bike Ride to Helsinki. The situation was even more worrying [...]

Euro Pride House 2016

The EGLSF and FSGL are proud to be hosting a mobile Euro Pride House in France during the 2016 UEFA European Football Championships this summer. Euro Pride House will play host to a range of sports, cultural and arts events, which share as a common theme our vision of breaking down the social and personal barriers, that discourage LGBTIQ people across Europe from participating and supporting football. Euro Pride House will run from 9th June to the 10th July and will be a place for people to come together to talk, think, relax and have fun. The “Against The Rules” [...]
