During EuroGames Lyon 2025, 17 project partners' representatives gathered in person to review accomplishments and plan the final phase of the +PLUSS project (LGBTQI+ Policy and Leadership in Sport and Society), which is now nearing completion.

With most key results now finalised, this meeting marked a significant milestone and provided partners with the opportunity to reflect on their progress and adjust strategies for the final phase. The work now shifts from development to dissemination and impact.

Reflecting on Key Deliverables

A key moment came during the conference “Fighting Discrimination, Building Inclusion” at Lyon’s City Hall the day before, where the following outputs were proudly showcased:

  • Research Report: An in-depth analysis tracing the roots and imagining the future of LGBTIQ+ sport in Europe, brought to life through an engaging illustrated story.
  • Guidelines: Practical tools for both LGBTQI+ and mainstream sports organisers to foster inclusive, diverse, and sustainable sporting environments.
  • Policy Paper: A focused set of recommendations aimed at policymakers and sports authorities to drive structural change at institutional levels.

Strategic Planning for Outreach

With only a few months remaining before the project concludes, the focus is now on impact. Partners agreed on an ambitious communication and outreach plan to ensure these tools reach those capable of implementing them.

The strategy includes:
• Personalised email outreach
• Press releases tailored for equality and sports media
• Coordinated social media campaigns to highlight project findings and amplify outreach through advertisements
• Two webinars designed to present the Guidelines and Policy Paper directly to LGBTQI+ sports leaders and European policymakers

A Clear Vision for Impact
The meeting reaffirmed a shared commitment: to develop sporting spaces where LGBTQI+ individuals can participate freely and safely, without the shadow of discrimination. The upcoming months will focus on expanding the project’s reach, aiming for broad visibility, strategic adoption, and lasting impact.
