The project tackled on the issue of preventing and fighting homophobic violence and intolerance in sport. The objectives of the Pride in Sport project were as follows: To raise awareness and understanding of homophobia and practice which discriminates against lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgender people in sport; To enhance the capacity of LGBT sports groups and networks both on a local/national/pan-European level to share knowledge and contribute to the debate on best practice in LGBT inclusion in sport; To promote LGBT human rights through sport, bridging the gap between new member states in the East and old member states in the West; To improve networks of those working to combat homophobia and promote LGBT inclusion in sport across Europe – including grass roots organisations, Sports Governing Bodies and campaigning organisations. Several approaches have been carried out within the project in order to maximise the synergies and outcomes; namely: organising an academic international conference/colloquium “Sport and homosexuals, sport for homosexuals”; supporting 20 local grassroot good practice initiatives and projects throughout Europe; setting up factsheets in form of guidance booklets for sports governing bodies for tackling homophobia; creating a mobile gaming application “UpFront”, focused on anti-discrimination values; setting up an exhibition “Against the Rules” about LGBT sport during the Olympics in London and EuroGames in Budapest.
