European Gay and Lesbian Sports Federation stands for all LGBTIQ+ athlete's rights – since 1989
Our story and purpose Contact us
Our purpose
The EGLSF is the leading voice of LGBTIQ+ sport in Europe.
Our vision is for a world of sport that fully includes and promotes equality for all irrespective of sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and sex characteristics.
Our mission is to organise and harness our experience to achieve LGBTIQ+ inclusion and equality in sport; to ensure that sport fully reflects us in all our diversity; and to ensure all LGBTIQ+ people are free to participate and enjoy sport everywhere in Europe.
We are active
Our work to promote LGBTQI+ rights in the world (of sports) include:
- Advocacy and activism work: We carry out special (EU) projects that focus on human rights in and through sport, and host and participate in human rights conferences. We fight against discrimination in sport on grounds of gender identity or sexual orientation.
- EuroGames: We license and help our member clubs organise the multi-sport European championship event, where the focus is on inclusivity and non-discrimination. By rethinking how sport is organised, experimenting, building inclusive practices, and offering training, we create a safer environment for LGBTIQ+ athletes to compete.
- Event & Sports calendar: We host an online calendar, where sports clubs can submit their own events to reach a wider audience.
- Information sharing: We actively manage information resource websites and social media to promote our cause.
- Member Support: We support our member organisations for example by offering grants, network assemblies, and capacity-building resources.
- Partnerships: We cooperate with partner organisations and institutions, such as the Council of Europe, to advance human rights in sports policy.
Our history
Our EuroGames documentation demonstrates how the dedication of our supporters has transformed the sporting world. Reflecting this shift, athlete participation has expanded from just a few represented nations to over a hundred in the latest EuroGames.

See if you find the answers below helpful, and don't hesitate to contact us if anything is unanswered!
We offer Regular and Associate Memberships. Read detailed information about Memberships here.
You can apply for membership using our membership application.
Each EuroGames host searches for volunteers separately. The Upcoming EuroGames section directs you to the official event website, where you can search for volunteering opportunities. Usually international volunteers are also very welcome, and you can let the host know which days you are available as a volunteer. Hundreds of volunteers are needed, so your contribution is appreciated!
The applicant organisation(s) has to be a member organisation of the EGLSF, but the host organisation can be a consortium of several organisations which can then include non-members.
Use our Contact form with Membership as the subject of your message.
