Development of LGBTIQ sports clubs in Central & Eastern Europe

By realising this program, EGLSF supports the establishing of a strong network and an effective intersectional cooperation among LGBTIQ sports clubs, their leaders and volunteers operating in the Central and Eastern European (CEE) region. Our main assumption is that these groups face similar challenges which means that at the same time they can understand each other well and can find adequate solutions while working together.

Due to this cooperation, we believe that more athletes could reveal their gender identity or sexual orientation that results in an increased number of LGBTIQ (particularly LBT women and trans) athletes in CEE region. Because LGBTIQ life is still underground and consists of  informal groups (also in sport) we also think it is crucial to support launching new LGBTIQ sports clubs in the CEE region, and to strengthen the roots of existing clubs or groups in these countries.

The project is led by the EGLSF and all together 11 organisations are involved, such as:

  1. Atlasz Sports Club (HU)
  2. Warsaw Volleyball Club Volup (PL)
  3. Queer Sport Split (HR)
  4. qSport Romania (RO)
  5. FemSlam (SRB)
  6. Bilitis Resource Centre Foundation (BG)
  7. Lotosové kvety (SK)
  8. Out in Slovenija (SL)
  9. LEAP Sports (UK Scotland)
  10. Frankfurter Volleyball Verein e.V. (DE)
  11. GAYCS (IT)
