Gay German Open Celebrates 11th Tournament

For the 11th time, the Gay German Open, a non-profit tennis tournament sanctioned by the Gay and Lesbian Tennis Alliance (GLTA) will be held in Kaarst, 5th-7th January 2018. Tournament director André Gielliet of RainBow Tennis Dusseldorf will welcome more than 110 participants from all around the world for the 3rd time at the TESPO Indoor Venue in Kaarst, 20 km west of Dusseldorf with 12 Carpet Courts. EGLSF Workshop – Fields of sport: empowering or oppressive spaces for minorities?

The women board members of the European Gay and Lesbian Sport Federation (EGLSF) – Annette Wachter, Diana van den Born, Sarah Townsend - hosted a workshop in the “Fields of sport: empowering or oppressive spaces for minorities?" session at the European Lesbian Conference (EL*C) held in in Vienna from 5-8 October, 2017. Highest ever fine imposed on swimming-pool discriminating against LGBTQ sports association in Hungary

Budapest, August 29, 2017 - The Equal Treatment Authority found that a local-government run swimming pool discriminated against an LGBTQ sports association when it declined to rent out two of its swimming lanes for a sport event. The Authority imposed a fine of 1 million HUF. EGLSF Member club, Atlasz Sports Club offers lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) people an opportunity to practice sports in an LGBTQ-friendly environment in Hungary since 2004. A Smashing Time in Amsterdam!

Last June was a month full of celebrations for our member club Smashing Pink.   For the 25th time the annual international Pinkster Tournament was organised by a group of enthusiastic volunteers. With about 400 participants the Pinkster Tournament is still Europe's largest LGBTIQ-tennis event. After it's 4th edition in 1996, the first European gay & lesbian tennis club Smashing Pink was founded. EGLSF launch first ever Euro Pride House for the UEFA Women’s Euro, Utrecht 2017

Sunday 16th July, saw the historic moment when the EGLSF organised the first ever Euro Pride House for a women’s European football championships. This project initiative is under the “Erasmus+ project, “Queering Football”. The event took place at the Bodytalk bar in Utrecht, the radiant and vibrant heart of the Netherlands. The evening was officially opened by Karin Blankenstein, founder of the John Blankenstein Foundation.
